1st International Coastal Communities Forum

The first International Coastal Communities Forum will be held online, bringing together 10 Mediterranean and African countries to discuss the sustainable development of coastal communities through the Blue Transformation Initiative.

The event will be streamed online from Porto Museo di Tricase, on 10 July at 3 PM., and will be accessible at the following link:

The Blue Transformation is an initiative of the United Nations, which intends to harness the potential of the oceans to support global food security. According to the United Nations, the world population will reach 10 billion by 2050, adding to the millions of people already suffering from hunger today.

Organised by CIHEAM Bari, with its office in Tricase, and the technical support from FAO and the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), and funded by the Italian Cooperation, the forum is part of the activities of the fifth edition of the Advanced Specialised Course on Sustainable Development of Coastal Communities.

For 10 weeks, ten Mediterranean and African countries will be involved in a series of meetings aiming to promote more resilient and aware coastal communities. This series of meetings will foster dialogue and knowledge exchange between stakeholders, policy makers, academics and blue transformation advocates, with a view to stimulating a network of collaborations between coastal communities, enhancing synergies between sea and land to build a sustainable future together. Topics covered in the Forum will include sustainable fisheries, aquaculture, ecotourism and environmental conservation and sustainability.
