The kick-off meeting of the Blue & Green Project - was held on 11 May to review the implementing strategy and technical components for Senegal and Uganda. Director Fabrizio Lobasso (Directorate General for Globalisation and Global Affairs) emphasised MAECI’s support for a ''Blue Economy'' in the beneficiary countries as a precondition for a stable and peaceful society.
Since the project start on 18 February 2022, CIHEAM Bari has been working in close cooperation with the E4Impact Foundation to carry out joint actions in Dakar and Kampala and increase the Blue Growth's social and economic opportunities. During the meeting, Kampala's Public Health and Environment director Daniel Okello Ayen highlighted the need to put in place best management practices that can turn the waste problem into an economic opportunity.
Moreover, a study tour to Milan is due to take place to showcase a model for the two municipalities concerned. Blue Growth can further institutions' and communities' development aspirations by monitoring and mitigating environmental impacts, prioritising poverty reduction, and advancing gender equality. CIHEAM is also mandated to prepare the technical guidelines to enable more inclusive, safe and resilient human settlements in Dakar and Kampala.
