NextFood - Action Learning at CIHEAM Bari

Action Learning at CIHEAM Bari is ready to harvest its first-year results. On May 13, 2019, the students of the Organic Agriculture Master course, CIHEAM team of learning facilitators and the stakeholders of the Parco delle Dune Costiere (Park of Coastal Dunes) have participated in a workshop organised in the headquarters of the Park, in the area of Ostuni (Casa del Mare, lido Morelli). The workshop is one of the final steps along the pathway of the “Action Learning” approach, which has engaged the students, the CIHEAM team and the Park’s stakeholders in a learner-centric, participatory and action-based learning activity aimed at identifying Park’s actions contributing to the sustainable development of the local agro-food system. Valorisation of local products for an organic menu, the recovery of traditional crops and rangeland protection and cheese production were the focus of the activities proposed by the students and presented to respond to some of the Park’s challenges. The Action Learning methodology has been applied within the Master course in Organic Agriculture as part of the activities implemented by CIHEAM Bari in the framework of the European project NextFood, a research and innovation action, (www.nextfood-project.eu), funded by EU H2020.
